Ph.D, P. Eng.

Dr. Xuantian Li is a Professional Engineer registered in BC, Canada. He has more than 20 years of experience in research, process development and engineering of clean combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, torrefaction, steam reforming and partial oxidation systems for conventional and renewable energy applications.

 

He has proven expertise in particulate systems and fluidized beds, membrane reactors, hydrocarbons processing, syngas generators, engine after-treatment systems, and SO2, NOx

and PM emissions control.

Xuantian is a senior engineer at NORAM Engineering, a process technology development company, and an active member of ITC.  In his current position, Xuantian has led or actively participated in a number of projects related to thermochemical conversion of biomass, bitumen, heavy (residual) oil and black liquor for the production of fuels and chemicals. As NORAM’s technical lead, he is currently involved in a Green Aviation Research & Development Network (GARDN) project, focusing on the assessment of technology maturation paths for the production of renewable jet fuel from bio-oil upgrading, an international collaboration program led by NORAM and the University of British Columbia. He has hands-on experience in development and scale-up of innovative technologies from laboratory studies to pilot plants and commercial applications.

 

Xuantian holds 8 US patents, 4 Chinese patents and a number of pending applications, and authored more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He taught at Zhejiang University, and is currently adjunct professor with Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, University of British Columbia.
