Clive Brereton

Ph.D

Dr. Clive M. H. Brereton joined NORAM Engineering and Constructors Ltd. in 1996 after seven years of prolific teaching career at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of British Columbia. He is a senior chemical engineer for NORAM Engineering and Constructors Ltd. where he leads a number of technology development initiatives. He is also a board member of BC Research Inc.

 

Beyond his managerial duties, Clive remains very active in the area of technology development. He has 30 years of extensive experience in hydrodynamics, heat and mass transfer, kinetics, reactor design and process simulation for clean combustion, gasification and fast pyrolysis of natural and renewable resources (e.g. biomass, black liquor) for the production of transportation fuels, hydrogen and chemicals, employing fixed beds, bubbling and circulating fluidized beds, membrane reactors and slurry columns. He also contributed to innovative solutions for calcination, distillation, stripping, and scrubbing for clean energy, NOx and SO2 emissions control systems.

 

Dr. Brereton holds 8 US and EU patents in the areas of nitration, electrochemical processes and liquid chlorine, bromine removal from chloralkali plants, and a number of patent applications. He authored more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals and on conferences. He is the recipient of a number of awards, and is an adjunct professor with the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia.
